La Leche League (LLL) of Longmont is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help parents worldwide to breastfeed through peer support, education, information, and encouragement, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and parent.
Nursing your baby is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of your baby. It is a very beautiful and loving act. But, as natural as it may be, it does not always come naturally to us. Breastfeeding is a learned behavior - we are supposed to have a community to teach us how to nurse our babies! La Leche League of Longmont is here to be that community!
LLL is a unique community in the lactation field. Their Leaders don’t preach or teach, they listen and share information, offer support, and provide resources to anyone who is interested in nursing their baby.
LLL Leaders are experienced breastfeeding mothers, who are familiar with current research and findings dealing with all aspects of nursing. They offer practical information and support through phone/email help, free monthly meetups, and lending libraries of books on childbirth, breastfeeding, and related parenting topics.
LLL International has been around since 1956, and their local Longmont chapter has been here for over 20 years. LLL of Longmont helps all parents interested in breastfeeding/chestfeeding in Longmont and the surrounding areas.
How can you help?
“More than anything, we want to get the word out to expecting and new parents that free, quality breastfeeding help is available. We can always use financial donations too. We don't charge for services so our group runs on donations alone. These donations allow us to carry out mission-based projects to reach many more families in need of the breastfeeding services we provide. These funds provide training and resources for current and new leaders, as well as books for our lending library. “ Amanda Dean, Local LLL Leader
